Heart failure and disease is the world and Israel's leading cause of illness and death.Heart disease also remains the main factor in hospitalization.
Rabin Medical Center conducts 25 percent of cardiothoracic operations in Israel.
Rabin Medical Center's coronary departments work in consultation to perform:
- 1,500 heart operations
- 2,000 diagnostic cardiac catheterizations
- 2,000 angioplasty procedures annually
- 600 electrical catheterizations of the heart annually, including pacemaker implantation
- Over4,000catheterization-based procedures that enjoy a very high success rate within Israel and world-wide recognition
The first significant achievement in the field of interventional cardiology was balloon angioplasty, a technique introduced in 1977. The last decade has witnessed dramatic transformation, according to Prof. Ran Kornowski, director of Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories and Interventional Cardiology program. Numerous devices for coronary revascularization and improved hardware for cardiac imaging and treatment have been introduced, including flexible stents and drug eluting stent implants.
At Rabin Medical Center, the relationship with the patient extends beyond the individual's hospital stay. The cardiac rehabilitation program was established to provide assistance for the patient's continued recovery at home.
