American Friends of Rabin Medical Center (AFRMC) is a 501(c) 3 organization established to support the Rabin Medical Center's mission and commitment to excellence in care. The staff, board and volunteers are charged with encouraging individual, family and institutional commitments to the hospital and with publicly promoting the hospital. This is accomplished by encouraging visitation, by creating joint ventures with other medical establishments, and by raising funds through a variety of programmatic efforts throughout the US, to help the Rabin Medical Center remodel and refurbish its facilities with the most advanced technology and equipment.
Joshua Plaut, Ph.D., is Executive Director of American Friends of Rabin Medical Center. Dr. Plaut holds a Ph.D. in Hebrew and Judaic Studies from New York University, and received his rabbinical ordination from Hebrew Union College. He has also authored two books on Jewish subjects. Previously, Dr. Plaut was the Executive Director of the Center for Jewish History for four years.
American Friends of Rabin Medical Center has a distinguished board of directors, who provide direction for AFRMC's activities and approve and oversee all of AFRMC's funding. The members of the board include:
Arnold Burns is Chair of the QuanStar Group, LLC. He is a former Deputy Attorney General of the United States, and was a Managing Director of Natexis Bleichroeder, Inc. He has been deeply committed to philanthropic activities.
Abraham Cohen is a retired Senior Vice President of Merck & Co. and President of the Merck Sharp & Dohme International Division (MSDI), which manufactures and markets human health products outside the United States.
Yaron Cohen is an Executive Director within Cushman & Wakefield's Capital Markets Group; he specializes in the sale and financing of major real estate projects. With over 26 years experience as a Manhattan-based investment sales specialist, Mr. Cohen has been directly involved in transactions which total more than $6 billion in value.
Dawn Effron served on the board of the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center - Vassar College's Art Museum- during the past six years. Co-chairman of the Vassar Medical Center's Gala dinner this coming year. Been involved with the Jewish Federation in Poughkeepsie in all-different capacities.
Bilha Chesner Fish, M.D. is a radiologist and woman who has been deeply involved in women's health issues from both perspectives. Dr. Fish is the first physician in the NY Metropolitan area to open a unique combination of two interrelated multidisciplinary practices: Manhasset Diagnostic Imaging and Pathway Women's Health, a center offering support groups for women coping with cancer and a wellness program that facilitates both physical and emotional health. Dr. Fish earned her medical degree at Cornell University Medical Center.
Stephen Flatow, Esq. is a lawyer. He is the father of Alisa Flatow, victim of terrorist attack in Israel. He is active in anti-terrorism movement, and often serves as a speaker for UJA and Bonds.
Jacalyn Barlia Florin is a theater producer. Among her credits are the Drama Desk nominated Off-Broadway production, NEWSical the Musical and the Next Edition. In her varied career, Jacalyn has worked in all aspects of communication including: media services, advertising, television and music. She is the associate producer of the play Is He Dead?, currently showing on Broadway. She has a tremendous commitment to the Jewish and theater communities and serves on boards of directors in both arenas.
Robert Ivanhoe is Chairman of Greenberg Traurig's Real Estate National Practice Group and its NY Real Estate. He is uniformly recognized as one of the leading real estate attorneys in New York City and nationwide. He has represented numerous nationally recognized owner/developer and institutional lender/investor clients domestically and internationally.
Larry Magid is a successful New York Real Estate investor and developer. He is involved in commercial and residential real estate in Long Island and New York City. Larry and his wife Millie are both board members, and have been involved with the Sid Jacobson Jewish Community Center in Long Island, NY for over 17 years.
Claude Mann holds degrees from the Sorbonne University and serves on the board of the Nevada Cancer Institute. She is the Chairperson of Gifting and Development for the Alfred Mann Foundation. Mrs. Mann also works with the Department of Music of the University of Southern California in its fundraising efforts for its annual Charles Dickens Dinner. In 2004, she was honored to receive the Woman of Achievement Award from the Women of Sheba.
Raquel Ramati is the owner and president of Raquel Ramati Associates Inc. She has earned international reputation as an urban designer and planner. She authored "How to Save Your Own Street," a book describing planning implementation and community participation in 60 U.S. cities. Ms. Ramati was a Loeb Fellow at Harvard University and teaches design and architecture at the Real Estate Development Program of the School of Architecture at Columbia University.
Amira Rotem is one of the founders of AFRMC in New York. She is a statistician, formerly involved in medical research. Active in AIPAC, Seeds of Peace and other Jewish organizations.
Stephen Siegel is Global Chairman of CB Richard Ellis and advises on the company's brokerage operation on a worldwide basis. He also spends a great deal of his time advising major corporations and property owners on a wide range of real estate issues. Mr. Siegel is widely regarded in commercial real estate circles as one of the industry's most talented and prolific professionals.
Michael H. Steinhardt is a noted philanthropist focusing on Jewish causes. In 1995, after a legendary career as Wall Street's most successful money manager, Steinhardt closed his funds and has since devoted his time and fortune to Jewish causes worldwide, including the Israel Museum, Hillel and its Steinhardt Jewish Campus Services Corps., and the creation of the Jewish Life Network (JLN), of which he is the primary funder.
Arlene Strelitz is a past Chairperson of the Women's Division of UJA. She is a businesswoman in Israel and the U.S.
Phyllis B. Trobman is an active member within the Jewish community. She recently retired after a long career in education and is presently acting as an educational consultant for local school districts in South Jersey. Phyllis and her husband, Malcolm, are founders of The Charles E. Trobman Oncology Data Management Center at the Davidoff Cancer Center, which was established in memory of their son.
Walter H. Weiner is been widely recognized for his humanitarian, civic and philanthropic activities. He was Chairman and CEO of Republic New York Corporation and its principal subsidiary, Republic National Bank of New York.
