A New Inpatient Internal Medicine Tower

A New Inpatient Internal Medicine Tower

    Construction

First stage of the new inpatient medical tower will include 3 stories located above the new Emergency Center presently under construction, and necessary foundations, also three stories high. The tower will house five internal medicine hospitalization departments as well as various support services.

Each of the 5 internal medicine departments will accommodate 38 beds and the total number of beds on the three floors will be 190. The gross area for each department will be about 1,500 sq.meters and will include: single and double patient rooms with en suite washrooms, nurses' station, six-bed intermediate care room for close supervision of patients, treatment room, doctors' offices and storage.

Total gross area of the building at this stage will be 9,000-10,000 sq.meters. In the future the plan is to house Intensive Care, outpatient clinics, imaging facilities and more in the new building. Furthermore, the new tower will have long-term potential for expansion of an additional three floors.

Design - Considering the special needs of the elderly

The new tower is being designed in accordance to modern hospital design models by leading architects. With over 65% of the patients in the Departments of Medicine over the age of 65, a sizable proportion of them Holocaust survivors, planning will take into consideration the special needs of the elderly due to various cognitive and physical changes such as deterioration of eyesight and hearing, balance, bone weakness and more. In addition, various elements will be incorporated into the design such as presence of natural light sources and maximum patient privacy and dignity as well as a friendly work environment.

Projected completion time of the new Inpatient Internal Medicine Tower: 2013

    Cost of Project: $40 million

This sum includes $10 million costs for construction of the foundation and $30 million for establishment of the 3 hospitalization floors.
