A Good Deed: Yeladudes Bakery at Rabin Medical Center

Rabin Medical Center has opened up a new small store at the hospital, selling the baked goods of "Yeladudes," a very special educational bakery located at Neve Hanna Children's Home in Kiryat Gat. Here children and youth ages 4 to 18, from troubled homes, reside in residential foster family units in a family-like caring and supportive atmosphere. This bakery teaches children responsibility and provides them with an opportunity to participate in the working world of adults, thus promoting their self esteem.

Baked goods include high quality breads and pastries from whole wheat and wheat germ, which they were taught to make by a master baker from Switzerland. Profits go to the Neve Hanna Children's Home, and all the children working in the bakery receive an allowance from the monthly sales. The Yeladudes Bakery has stands in many medical centers throughout Israel and has won numerous business contracts, including supplying bread to business class travelers of the Israeli national air carrier, El Al.

Ofra Raychaim, the administrative director of the hospital, said: "We are happy to participate in this important project, which provides a special educational work experience for children from troubled families, and the hospital is proud to do its part in helping this community."
