Dr. Aviel Meoded

General Surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center, November 2015

My name is Aviel Meoded. I am 39 years old, married and father of four children aged 5 to 12. I am a general surgeon working as a senior attending the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Unit at the General Surgery Department of Rabin Medical Center in Petach-Tikva, Israel. I have been a resident in the Department for the last six years, where I completed my residency last May.

I am particularly interested in the field of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery and I wish to continue specializing in this field. Prior to my residency, I served as a combat soldier in an anti-aircraft unit of the Israeli Defense Forces' Air Force. Being a physician and surgeon, I continue to serve as a medical officer in the reserves of the Paratroop Brigade and served in Cast Lead and Pillar of Defense offensives. In the Operation Protective Edge, the recent military operation, I worked at the hospital and I was one of the trauma surgeons on duty attending to the many casualties that arrived from the battlefield.

I have been offered a fellowship in the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital – Ryder Trauma Center for four weeks in November 2015. The purpose of the fellowship is to observe the way major trauma patients are managed in a key trauma center in the United States. This field of practice in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery is only just being developed in the State of Israel. My tutor during this time will be Prof. Mauricio Lynn.

I am grateful for the opportunity you have afforded me to pursue excellence in the field of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.  Your support will benefit not only the Department and Rabin Medical Center, but the Israeli population. The knowledge gained will be most helpful in improving the practice in the field of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery at the Rabin Medical Center, either in the acute setting and the long-term follow-up clinics.

The constant assistance of your organization has offered our hospital throughout the years is much appreciated.
